Hi I’m Paul McGee, commonly known as The SUMO Guy.
My journey has been somewhat of a rollercoaster, from working as a probation officer in West Yorkshire to managing in a beef burger factory in East Anglia. Chronic Fatigue syndrome in my mid-twenties saw me go from a high-flying graduate management trainee with a large multi-national to being on invalidity benefit and using a walking stick
I set up my own business in the early 1990’s, building on my academic background in psychology and my fascination around what makes us tick as humans and I now speak at conferences and deliver seminars and presentation skills masterclasses.
My client list includes Manchester City Football Club, Tesco, Lloyds Bank, Virgin, Adidas, Specsavers, The NHS and a number of charities. I’ve spoken in over 40 countries and written 13 books with combined sales of approaching half a million copies.
In 2019 I was awarded the title of Visiting Professor by the University of Chester in recognition of the extensive work I’ve done to make academic knowledge relevant, accessible and practical in helping people from all backgrounds and ages including school children.
I combine my love of comedy and sport by supporting both Wigan Athletic and Bradford City – it’s a long story. I also love nature, Netflix, and anywhere warm. As for my weaknesses, I’m not the most practical person on the planet, and was recently diagnosed as DIY intolerant. Also, please never ask me for directions unless you enjoy the adventure of getting lost.
